Claims - Things You Must Or Must Not Do
  1. All claims must be notified to us as soon as possible.  Your Insurers will generally not consider any claims notified to them later than 30 days after the event.
  2. Avoid admitting liability verbally, or paying an "Admission of Guilt" fine until we have had an opportunity to advise you.
  3. Please take note that your insurers:
    • Have the right to inspect your car after a loss has taken place.
    • Can choose to settle your claims by paying in cash, by repairing the damage, or by replacing the car.
  4. Do not sell or dispose of any property damaged in a claim until we authorise you to do so.
  5. Do not repair or replace lost or damaged property until we have given Insurers an opportunity to inspect the damage.
  6. Please check your drivers’ licences regularly and advise Hunt Adams immediately of any endorsements.
  7. Avoid leaving any of your property in an unattended vehicle.  In most cases, theft from an unattended vehicle is not covered.  For certain classes of insurance such as Assets All Risks or Business Combined, where cover can be obtained, theft must be accompanied by forcible and violent entry or exit from the premises in question.
  8. With regard to motor cars, claim settlements are based on reasonable market value, which will be ascertained by the Insurance assessor.  The onus for setting correct values rests with you, the insured.
  9. With regard to car audio systems covered on motor policies, the value of these items is restricted, unless we are advised of make, model and value prior to a loss.
  10. In the event of a motor accident, please make sure that the following information is obtained at the scene:
    • Name of the Third Party (i.e. the other party/parties in the accident), their physical address, telephone numbers
    • Registration number of Third Party vehicle
    • Name of the Third Party’s insurance company (and get their policy number if this is possible)
    • Name and number of police officer in attendance, and the accident report number and name of Police station that attended the scene of the accident.
    • Name and address of any witnesses
  11. Should the repair costs of repairing an accident damaged car (comprehensive cover) exceed 70% of the sum insured, the insurers will consider that it is uneconomic to repair the vehicle and will call it a “write off”.  You will then have two options:
    • Insurers can pay you the sum insured less policy excess, after which the salvage (i.e. the damaged car) becomes the property of the Insurer
    • Insurers can pay you 70% of the sum insured less the policy excess, after which the salvage belongs to you.

Premium Payment

Because of currency problems, your insurance contract is on a strictly “cash-before-cover” basis. However, if you are interested in paying your premiums over a period, our staff can arrange for you to pay monthly (over 12 months) quarterly or half-yearly.
